Laurie Gabriel retired as one of three managing partners at the Boston-based Wellington Management Company in June 2008. In addition to serving as a managing partner from 1999 to 2008, Laurie was Director of Global Research from 2003 – 2008 and Chair of the firm’s Compensation Committee from 2002 – 2008. Wellington manages over $500 billion in client assets for approximately 1,500 institutions located in over 40 countries, and is also recognized as a leading hedge fund manager.
Laurie joined Wellington Management in 1976 upon graduation from Tufts University, where she earned a B.A. in Economics, magna cum laude. During her tenure at Wellington, she held a number of positions, including equity portfolio manager, Director of Quantitative Research, and relationship manager. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has been President of the Quantitative Discussion Group and the Boston Security Analysts Society.
In retirement, Laurie is spending time on travel and active outdoor sports, as well as sharing her business experience by working with several non-profit organizations. In addition to serving on the Tufts Board of Trustees and the Investment Committee, Laurie recently became a trustee of Cummings Foundation. She currently serves as a trustee for The Nature Conservancy – New Hampshire and the Mount Washington Observatory and is chair of the investment committee for the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. She also actively supports several conservation organizations and non-profits focused on aiding women in creating independent lives.
An active member of the Tufts Alumni Council during the 1980s, Laurie is now an emeritus member of the Council. She regularly participates on her Tufts class reunion committees and the Tufts Finance Career Forum. She was elected to the Tufts Board of Trustees in 2009.
