SETH I. MERRIN
Seth Merrin is founder and CEO of Liquidnet Holdings, the world’s institutional marketplace that facilitates equities trading for the world’s leading asset managers who want access to best execution, superior liquidity, and protection for their large orders. Equities trading extends to more than 630 asset management firms in 38 equity markets across five continents.
Liquidnet continues to be recognized for the value it delivers to its members with numerous accolades and awards. In 2010 alone, Liquidnet was named “Best Buy-Side Execution Venue” as part of the 2010 Buy-Side Technology Awards, “European Trading Venue of the Year,” by Funds Europe, and 1st in Best Data Management Initiative at the 2010 American Financial Technology Awards. Liquidnet also received top rankings across the board in Z/Yen’s 2010 Survey of Operational Performance of Brokers.
Prior to founding Liquidnet in 1999, Seth co-founded VIE Systems Inc., a financial services application integration software company. Seth founded his first company, Merrin Financial, in 1995, launching the industry’s first order management, compliance and electronic order routing systems for asset managers. At first embraced only by cutting edge firms, these technologies are now standard on virtually every trading desk in the U.S. ADP acquired Merrin Financial in 1996. Prior to 1985, Seth was a Risk Arbitrage Trader for CIBC Oppenheimer.
Seth was recently ranked 5th in Institutional Investor Magazine’s “2010 Tech 40″, recognized in FTSE Global Markets 20/20 and named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Metro New York in Financial Services.
Seth graduated from Tufts University in 1982 with a degree in Political Science. An active member of the New York Tufts Alliance and a steady supporter of Tufts Hillel, he has donated a number of works of art to the school and has spoken at campus forums on entrepreneurial leadership. He and his wife Anne have established the Merrin Family Scholarship Fund at Tufts, which assists disadvantaged students from the New York City area. Seth was elected to the Tufts University Board of Trustees in 2004.
