Marty Ray, Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff

Marty Ray serves as Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff to the President at Tufts University. In his role, Dr. Ray advises the president on strategic matters and directs presidential initiatives. He manages policy, procedural and operational issues within the Office of the President and coordinates matters within the senior leadership team and across university-wide schools, units, and departments. He serves on multiple University-wide committees, represents the President while engaging with a broad array of university constituents and stakeholders, and administers special projects. In addition, he supports trustee committees and sub-committees and provides management oversight for the Office of the Trustees and the University Chaplaincy.

Prior to Tufts, Dr. Ray was Director of University Development Strategy at Harvard University Alumni Affairs and Development where he supported the advancement strategy and engagement operations for the President and the Provost. He began his career at the Boston Red Sox where he spent a decade in Ballpark Entertainment, Media Relations, and Public Affairs. Dr. Ray received his doctorate from the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education, two master’s degrees from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Extension School, and a bachelor’s degree from Boston University.
