Tom Malone is Vice President for Finance and Treasurer, ad interim, where he leads strategic financial initiatives to support the institution’s long-term sustainability and mission. In this capacity, Tom partners with university leadership and school deans to oversee enterprise-wide priorities, including budget strategy, capital planning, and resource optimization to advance institutional goals.

Tom joined Tufts in 2014 and previously served as Executive Vice Dean for Strategy and Operations at Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM), where he was responsible for finance, operations, and the implementation of the school’s strategic plan. His leadership was pivotal in launching Tufts’ Doctor of Physical Therapy programs and expanding TUSM’s national footprint with programs in Boston, Phoenix, and Seattle. Tom has extensive university experience working with the schools and university leadership on financial matters, and most recently served as Executive Director of Administrative and Financial Initiatives in the Finance Division.

With more than 20 years of experience in academic medicine and university administration, Tom has held senior roles at UC San Diego, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Columbia University, and Harvard Medical School. He has an undergraduate degree from SUNY Albany in economics and holds a Master of Public Administration in Health Policy and Management from NYU’s Wagner School of Public Service.
